Current Executive Board

sabryn leidlein (Co-President)

Sabryn is from Macomb, MI., and went to Oakland University in Rochester, MI., for her undergraduate degree. She was interested in First Aid First because she is passionate about making a tangible difference in the community, and FAF educating people on how to save lives is a great way to do that. Sabryn is currently unsure about her future career choices, but is interested in Sports Medicine as of now.

fateh ahmad (Co-President)

Fateh Ahmad graduated from Western University. Originally born in Detroit, Fateh wants to give back to the community by teaching them how to save life. Fateh’s passion for teaching drives him to pursue academic medicine in the future. He also wishes to use life saving skills abroad in countries that are medically underserved. Eventually, he hopes to match into Anesthesia.

Noor ghanam (Communications & technology Director)

While Noor grew up in various countries, she moved to WSU SOM from St. Louis, MO, where she completed her undergraduate degree at Washington University in St. Louis. Noor wanted to join First Aid First because she believes healthcare knowledge including First Aid should be accessible, and because she wanted the opportunity to educate others about her favorite clinical topic, medical emergencies. Noor is hoping to practice both Pediatric Emergency Medicine and adult Emergency Medicine, but is open to wherever life takes her.

 

Mary-ann essak (Research c0-Coordinator)

Mary-Ann is from Gross Pointe, MI, and completed her undergraduate education at Wayne State University. Mary-Ann shares she is honored to be a part of First Aid First, and chose to join it because she believes that learning life skills is super important, and appreciates the fact that First Aid First goes out of its way to teach people how to help someone in an emergency. Her overall career goal in medicine is to work with kids in some capacity.

udo nwosu (treasurer)

Udo is from Riverdale, GA (in Metro Atlanta), and completed her undergraduate degree at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. She chose to join First Aid First because she aligns with the mission of the organization. Knowing first aid and administering it as soon as possible significantly improves an individual’s health outcome, and she wants to help teach communities first aid, so that they aren’t afraid or hesitant to help others when they are in distress. Her career goals include matching into Anesthesia or a Surgical subspecialty.

 

sana Soman (research co-coordinator)

Sana is from Troy, MI, and attended the University of Michigan for her undergraduate education. Sana states she loves being involved in the community, and joined First Aid First because she is excited to be able to teach CPR and First Aid to community members to increase medical awareness in Southeast Michigan. She is interested in eventually pursuing a Surgical subspecialty, but is still open to anything.

Arianna mcclellan (Outreach Director)

Arianna is from Southfield, MI, and went to the University of Michigan for undergrad. She was interested in joining First Aid First because it seemed like a great way to get involved in the community while at the same time, doing the work to reduce health disparities. She has firsthand seen the importance of first aid traning, and empowering individuals in the community to potentially save a life. She is currently interested in pursuing a career in Adolescent Psychiatry, but is still open to other specialties as well.

 

Will frazier (stop the bleed coordinator)

Will is from Melbourne, Florida, and went to undergrad at the University of Florida. He was interested in joining First Aid First to get involved with the community by teaching life-saving techniques. His overall career goals in medicine are to help underserved communities.

Dr. Kristianna Kaufmann (C0-Founder and Faculty Adviser)

Dr. Kaufmann is an Assistant Clinical Faculty member at the Detroit Medical Center/Wayne State University School of Medicine, as well as a licensed emergency medicine physician at the Detroit Medical Center. In addition to founding and leading First Aid First, Dr Kaufmann created the Hands-On Practical Emergency Skills (HOPES) first aid training for incoming students in the WSU School of Medicine.

Dr. Kaufmann is also the Eastern Michigan Region Medical Director for the National Ski Patrol, co-director of the WSU Global Health Alliance, and the American College of Emergency Physicians Ambassador to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.

Dr. Kaufmann received her undergraduate education at the University of Michigan, an MPH at the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Public Health, and her MD at the Wayne State School of Medicine. She completed her emergency medicine residency at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

Dr. Roy Elrod (Co-Founder)

Dr. Elrod has been a Clinical Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at Detroit Medical Center/Wayne State University School of Medicine for the past 19 years. He currently works in the Emergency Department at Detroit Receiving Hospital as the Medical Director for Ambulatory Emergency Services. He also serves as the Chief Medical Officer and Chief Operating Officer for Health Centers Detroit Medical Group. In addition, he is the current Chief of Staff, as well as Physician Advisor, at Detroit Receiving Hospital. 

Dr. Elrod received his BS degree with dual majors in Biomedical Sciences and Behavioral Psychology from Western Michigan University. He later received his MD degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine. Dr. Elrod’s research interests are in health issues related to the disparities in the African-American community, teen violence that impacts the urban communities, and disparities in access to healthcare.
